Who We Are
Guilford County is an area rich in all kinds of gardens: community gardens, church gardens, school gardens and private residential gardens. Share the Harvest is an organization that connects our community gardens and gardeners to individuals who are in need of food, in this case, quality produce. Where there are gardens, there is always an abundance of wonderful vegetables. There are times during the growing season, when our gardens are overflowing with vegetables and we don’t know what to do with the excess. This is when Share the Harvest can help both the gardener and the individuals in need. If by chance, a gardener has the extra space, a row of vegetables can be planted just for the purpose of donating to Share the Harvest.
Share the Harvest has set up Collection Sites (click on the Collection Site Tab) for this excess produce. From the Collection Sites, the produce is taken to the IRC (Interactive Resource Center) where it will be sorted and distributed to agencies in the county that have a food pantry or prepare a meal for the hungry.
The goal of Share the Harvest is to help people in our community overcome food insecurity through connections within our community.
